The second game takes place roughly 100 years or so after the first one and revolves around the 'Hiigaran's' whom in the previous game were the 'Kushan' race, back before they managed to travel all the way to their Homeworld Hiigara and reclaim their lost heritage. She became the core of the Mothership and was known as Fleet Command. Central to the Mothership was Karan S'jet, the scientist who integrated the Mothership's control system into her own nervous system. Technologies that never existed before were developed. They worked for nearly a century on building the "Mothership", a vast ship that would bear 600,000 of them to their destination. The discovery united the clans of Kharak. The other, located near the center, bore a name so ancient it was common across all their languages and dialects: Hiigara, "Home". More importantly, a stone with a galactic map bearing two coordinates was found: One, located at the outer rim of the galaxy, was Kharak. It carried advanced spaceflight technologies. One day, however, everything changed: A satellite detected a huge spaceship under the sands of the Great Desert.
Scarcity of arable land and natural resources had colored Kushan history with near constant warfare between the many clans.
And without spoiling it to much for anyone that hasn't played it before such as myself, since I actually never have played the first campaign from start to finish, here's a "Prologue" as it were.įor thousands of years, the Kushan survived on the arid planet Kharak, corralled into the temperate geographical poles by a vast hot desert. The thing I drew an analogy to the game's development in the first paragraph, was in fact the pretense of the Homeworld 1 Story/Plot. We didn't really touch on the whole story and gameplay aspects, but with the game releasing (re-releasing?) in just under an hour with a stunning Launch trailer albeit with a strange musical selection, let's talk a bit about the story shall we. In a previous article we talked a bit about how the original games had aged quite a bit and how they were, for the most part quite bothersome to get running on modern hardware. It is during the Mothership's final testing phase that the single-player game begins.Homeworld Remastered Collection Launches today Kharak's people united in building the "Mothership", a vast colony ship that would bear 600,000 of them to their destination, made rugged and self-sufficient in order to survive possible problems during the long trip. The stone would become known as the Guidestone, and confirmed the XenoGenesis Theory. The other bore a name so ancient it was common across all their languages and dialects: Hiigara. More importantly however, a stone with a galactic map bearing two coordinates was found. It carried advanced spaceflight technologies including a Hyperspace Core, one of a few ancient machines that were the Homeworld setting's foundation for all faster-than-light technology. An expedition discovered that the central structure was the spacecraft of which they had earlier found traces in orbit. Despite this error, however, it found something, beneath the sands: a derelict city with a massive central metallic structure. It was an ironic twist of fate occurring later in their history that boosted them even further along their development.Ī high-powered satellite designed to scan the planetary system malfunctioned upon deployment and ended up facing entirely the wrong way, scanning the Great Desert around Kharak's equator instead. In addition to helping accelerate their space technology research, the debris confirmed that a large advanced spacecraft had once been in orbit. Small pieces of metallic debris, the largest no bigger than a hand, were retrieved from low orbit and, when analyzed, were found to be made up of materials totally unknown to Kushan metallurgy. The first space flights reinforced this idea. DNA sequencing of Kharak's native life revealed no genetic resemblance to the Kushan, giving rise to their "XenoGenesis Theory" - which stated that they were not native to Kharak at all. Scarcity of arable land and natural resources has coloured Kushan history with near constant inter-clan (or "Kiith") warfare.Īs new technologies emerged, religious and political conflict partially gave way to unified scientific exploration. Buried within the ancient remains, the secret of their lost homeworld.įor thousands of years, the Kushan have survived on the arid planet Kharak, corralled into the temperate geographical poles by a vast, unforgivingly hot desert. Beneath the scorching sands of Kharak, the Kushan people have discovered the remains of a long-forgotten titanic spaceship.
